Description

The sound of My Sonic Lab cartridges are the result of master cartridge designer Yoshio Matsudaira seeking natural reproduction by minimizing signal loss, internal distortion, and phase distortion. All My Sonic cartridges utilize Matsudaira-san’s unique SH-μX magnetic core. This special core material has higher permeability and flux density than the typical iron core material used in MC cartridges. It allows My Sonic Lab to use fewer coil windings than other moving coil cartridges, minimizing music robbing distortions and maximizing signal output. This high efficiency approach equals wide dynamic range, fast transient response, low distortion and high signal-to-noise ratio. In other words, expect tremendous natural detail and clarity and to hear new layers of information in your favorite records.

The Hyper Eminent EX cartridge is made from super hard A7075 aluminum with strengthening measures achieved with an ion surface hardening treatment. This treatment creates a sandwiching effect and eliminates the inherent resonances of a single material. The result is a 10x harder surface than the body of Eminent EX.

This extra hard body, combined with the warm and natural sound of the Super Duralumin cantilever, makes the Hyper Eminent detailed but never lean sounding.

Utilising his may years of knowledge and experience Mr. Matsudaira has produced the Ultra Eminent cartridge with a remarkably low internal impedance of 0.6 Ω, yet a relatively high output level of 0.3 mV giving it an astonishing ability retrieve micro detail as well as possessing a very low noise floor.

This creates an unparalleled and believable reproduction of music, even the smallest details are extremely well defined and “clear”
All this was achieved using very strong neodymium magnets together with the special coil core material SH-μX developed by MY SONIC LAB and a cantilever made of pure boron. The sound of the Ultra Eminent is imbued accuracy, space and ease of performance making it a world class competitor.

An excellent test review in “Hi Fi & Records (Issue 4/16) “… My first overall impression: intensive music, always absolutely sovereign and effortless …. is the profound groove selection, which allows an extremely deep immersion in the musical structure of recordings, thereby exposing their emotional components. Everything is there from really hearty music reproduction to filigree fine work – this applies to precisely drawn timbres, as well as to dynamic unfolding. My Sonic Lab’s Ultra Eminent is an excellent pickup that can cope with any musical genre without limitation and also provides the “extra” sound quality you expect …. “

“… the Ultra Eminent Ex’s presentation sounded like analog tape. I believe this was caused by extreme amounts of low-level detail. The (Ultra) Eminent Ex retrieved so much microdetail that I swore I could hear right through the grooves to the analog tape passing across the recorder’s playback head.” –Herb Reichert, Stereophile

The “My” in the company name My Sonic Lab refers to the initials of its designer: Mr. Y. Matsudaira who founded the company after an illustrious career spanning over forty years designing cartridges, phono stages and tonearms .

He started at Tokyo Sound Co. in 1959 and moved to Supex Co in 1967. In the 70’s, he was invited to be part of an independent development team for masterpieces by the top-brand phono cartridges  like Koetsu, Miyabi etc. He joined Audio Craft Co in 1981 as chief engineer and presented such exquisite works as the AC-3 stereo cartridge, the AC-3300/4400 tonearms, the AR-110/110L turntables, the TS-200 MC transformer, the PE-6000 Signature phono amp.

Mr. Matsudaira realised his long cherished dream, when he formed “My Sonic Lab” in 2003, and introduced the EMINENT high-output, low-impedance MC cartridge and the matching MC transformer Stage 202.

With My Sonic Lab, Mr. Matsudaira has fulfilled his design goals of producing a moving coil cartridge with very low internal impedance. With this design, Mr. Matsudaira feels that the energy producing potential of an MC cartridge is fully realised.

Mr. Matsudaira uses an ultra high-μ material that he has named SH-μX. This material allows My Sonic Lab to significantly reduce the amount of coil wire required to give a decent output level. With the reduction in the amount of coil wire comes greater low-level resolution.

My Sonic Lab cartridges achieve their reputation as absolute reference standard components because of their ability to excel in all aspects of analogue sound reproduction and audiophiles often describe them as having that elusive “magic”. It’s all there …energy, dynamics, detail, nuance, liquidity. Once you have heard one of these in a well set-up system, you will realise that only someone of Mr. Matsudaira’s experience and heritage can produce something this special.
